More Google Adulations, Sub Rosa

So, with teeth clean and bearing the dental seal of approval, I sit in Union Square, downtown San Francisco, typing away. Having a laptop makes that possible, and, for me, this is no small wonder alone. However, to add to the awe of the moment, I will momentarily publish this entry to my blog courtesy of Google Wi-Fi. In the middle of Union Square. Over a free, fast and reliable connection. Now that’s cool.

Google has apparently been making some stealth moves in the wi-fi market, potentially leading to more robust, universal wifi offerings. It even seems unclear as to where Google has deployed some of their test hot-spots throughout the Bay Area, but I — and presumably many others — have clearly stumbled upon one. I have yet to download the secure wifi client that Google has available to encrypt open wireless conections, but that is intriguing as well. It remains to be seen how this clandestine wifi network will materialize — if that’s possible for a wifi network — but I’ll gladly be one of the beta spies…er, uh, beta testers.
